The gloves do what you'd expect; free your fingers for things like using keys, then covering them with the mitten top to keep them warm. The button works, but i tend not to use it, as it's annoying to do and undo it all the time.
The black part is, I guess, meant to provide a better grip, but it's got a crunchy, synthetic texture, a little stiff, and not particularly useful for gripping. Personally, I think the contrast between the color of the backing (which is nice and soft, by the way) and the black is rather ugly.
They seem to be average sized for womens gloves. Well made, durable, but I won't be getting another pair.
